NASHVILLE, Tenn. 8/8/13 — PATHS® Education Worldwide, a new endeavor dedicated to advancing social and emotional learning in schools around the world, today announced that NoVo Foundation — co-chaired by Jennifer and Peter Buffett — has committed $100,000 to support the group’s growth and expansion during 2013.

The NoVo grant, administered by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, will help PATHS® Education Worldwide provide training and technical assistance to schools and school systems deploying the PATHS® Curriculum, a comprehensive research-based curriculum designed to educate children in preschool through Grade 6.

“We are honored to partner with NoVo Foundation to promote social and emotional learning, in the US and around the world,” said Mark Greenberg, chairman of PATHS® Education Worldwide. “We look forward to introducing more schools to this innovative approach to teaching and learning.”

According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), evidence-based instruction in social and emotional learning can reduce problem behaviors, improve relations with peers and adults, and increase academic achievement. The PATHS® Curriculum has been proven-effective and is nationally and internationally recognized by more than a dozen noteworthy organizations and agencies

“With Americans more focused than ever on issues like bullying and school violence, NoVo Foundation believes that social and emotional learning can help students of every background develop caring and concern for others, make responsible decisions, and learn more effectively,” said Jennifer Buffett, president and co-chair of NoVo Foundation. “NoVo is pleased to support organizations like PATHS Education Worldwide in advancing this important cause in education.”

PATHS Education Worldwide will leverage the NoVo grant to accelerate the first phase of its work, which will include training educators on how to teach using PATHS® research-based curriculum and materials. Greenberg, founder of the Prevention Research Center at Pennsylvania State University, co-developed the PATHS® curriculum with Dr. Carol Kusche. PATHS Education Worldwide’s CEO, Dorothy Morelli, is the organization’s lead trainer.
